Introductory Tai Chi Class (in person or virtually)

Tai Chi is a Chinese martial art focused on self-defense, body position, and breath control. It features fluid, graceful movements and promotes harmony of body and mind while providing mental relaxation and physical fitness. Participants will learn "Chen style" Tai Chi through warm-up exercises and step-by-step practice and explore Chinese culture and the philosophy of yin and yang. This program is available as a one-time workshop or a residency.

Meet Our Tai-Chi Instructor

Guanglei, a professional dancer and choreographer from China, has more than 20 years of experience. He founded the Cross Move Lab dance company and has performed in over twenty countries at international arts festivals.

Guanglei studied dance at the Bishkek International School of Performing Arts in Kyrgyzstan from 2001 to 2003, earning a degree in Choreography/Russian Classical Ballet Performance and Pedagogy. He also won second place in the Bishkek International Dance Competition during his studies.

Guanglei joined Guangdong Modern Dance Company in 2005, performed with them in Germany in 2008, worked as a choreographer in Japan in 2011, and participated in the American Dance Festival in 2012. He also joined White Wave Young Soon Kim Dance Company in 2013, Shen Wei Dance Arts in 2014, and Taipei Dance Round Table Project in 2016. In 2018, he received the Artist Commissioning Program Grant from Queens Council on the Arts, and he has been teaching at Queens College and Peridance Capezio Center since 2017 and 2018 respectively.

Furthermore, in 2020, he started teaching Chinese dance and Tai Chi at Flushing Town Hall for junior high school and high school students.
