It might take us at least 4 weeks to set up a private or group class for kids, depending on how long the waitlist is. Please plan ahead of time.

Chinese After-School Programs

Every year, hundreds of NYC children learn their Chinese with us.

Ideal for New York City private and charter schools, child care centers, local family groups, young adults, and kids.

We are delighted that you are interested in having your kids or students start Chinese language instruction at a young age, and we hope that our work will enable your students to establish an excellent program in your own school.

Our content-rich Mandarin curriculum will help create an age-appropriate Chinese language program that reinforces regular curriculum content and skills while spiraling vocabulary, sentence patterns, and cultural content so that all children can succeed in learning Chinese.

We will conduct a brief phone/virtual interview with students under 12 years old and their parents in order to determine whether we have available teachers. Trial lessons are available at a discounted rate.

To get the most out of our content-rich Mandarin Chinese curriculum, it's helpful to understand the underlying assumptions. These include:

  • The curriculum is based on 90 minutes of instruction per week in grades K-8;

  • All children can be successful learning a second language to the extent that they can learn their first language;

  • Explicit grammar instruction is not appropriate for young children;

  • This curriculum is designed for non-heritage speakers of Mandarin Chinese;

  • Content-enriched instruction reinforces concepts and skills across the curriculum while developing language proficiency;

  • Backward Design enables us to work towards specific performance outcomes;

  • While the focus in early grades is on oracy, it is important to develop literacy skills as well; and

  • The appropriate use of technology can enhance an elementary Mandarin Chinese program.
